A little over 4 years ago, we had the idea to fund a student scholarship in the name of George Brown College Retirees. Since then we have helped various students by awarding $2,000 in annual scholarships and we have raised more than $16,000.00 thanks to your generosity.
We have set up two accounts for the Scholarship monies. The first account, "The Retirees' Association Scholarship Fund" currently holds a balance of $3,470.00. It is from this account that we award our annual $500.00 scholarship. The second account, "The Retirees' Pre-endowment Fund" currently holds $13,480.00. This second fund is like a savings account: we are attempting to raise that balance to $20,000.00 because at that point the interest from that money will be used to award a student scholarship forever.
When you make a donation, or when we collect funds through fund raising, that money is deposited into the the first account - and periodically we transfer money from the first account to the pre-endowment fund, always keeping a minimum balance in the first account so we can continue to offer our current annual scholarship no matter what the balance of the Pre-endowment fund.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have donated to this cause either through a direct donation or by participating in our various fund raising activities. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
